DO WHAT YOU LOVE & THE MONEY WILL FOLLOW…BUT WHEN?

By Cary Bayer
Life Coach & Author, The Prosperity Aerobics

About a year ago, a friend of mine was fed up with her job. She had read the book, Do What You Love, the Money will Follow, by Marsha Sinetar, and saw it as a sign from above that she needed to finally quit, and pursue her passion for painting. But after nine months the money didn’t follow. She’s been living off her savings but they’re running low. So she asked me, as a coach, what she should do.

I told her I believe that if you do what you love the money will follow, because then you’re doing the work you’re here to do; you’re doing God’s work. That’s when the Universe supports your endeavors. But-- and this is very important--the time it takes for each person’s money to follow is radically different. That’s because, all too often, we think like limited human beings instead of like the divine sparks we truly are.

Many moons ago, I quit the last job I ever had to pursue what I loved which, at the time, was comedy writing. Within the 2 week-period of having given notice and actually leaving, I got an offer from a producer to write a funny screenplay for his movie. This first motion picture that I wrote became the first that got produced. This is doing what you love and watching the money quickly follow.

Not everybody has that high degree of manifestation time. Christ said that if we had faith and asked the mountain to move, it would move. Few of us have that degree of faith; fewer still have that degree of bulldozing skills. That’s why, if you’re going to do what you love so that the money follows, I recommend that you first take care of three main pieces of business.

1. Practical Preparation: Make sure you have a minimum of six months of banked living expenses.

This half-year of savings provides a cushion just in case the money follows slower than you think it will. It also enables you to pursue what you love with more peace of mind. It’s necessary to interest others in what you love to do--in other words you must sell your product or service. And it’s much easier to sell when you’re calm than when you’re worried. Prospective customers can smell your fear and will often avoid buying from you.

2. Emotional Preparation: Keep your heart pure.

I’ve noticed that money miracles happen most frequently to those whose hearts are pure. If there are people you’re angry with, now is the time to forgive them. Open room in your heart for this unexpected new income to flow. Do some Feng Shui on your inner landscape to move the center of your being from your worrying ego to your loving heart. There are many ways to forgive someone; the most effective involves authenticity. So don’t just try to forgive them superficially. It’s wise to privately express the anger that you feel, making it easier to get at the compassion and forgiveness that lay underneath.

3) Mental Preparation: Do an inner overhaul on your mind.

Your consciousness needs to be prepared to receive the money that will follow. It’s one thing to consciously believe that if you do what you love the money will follow, and quite another if you believe when you do what you love, the bankruptcy will follow.

A study was done some years back in Canada among a group of people who suddenly struck it rich by winning big money in the various provincial lotteries. An astonishing statistic emerged: within five years, the vast majority of them had gone broke. All these winners had become losers. The Canadian governments dumped fortunes into their laps but never taught them how to handle them.

One way to prepare your consciousness for allowing the money to follow is to practice what I call Prosperity Aerobics, an inner workout. One of the popular exercises is the writing of affirmations, a word that comes from the Latin, affirmare, which means to make firm or to fix. In this case, it’s to make firm in your consciousness the idea that you can prosper by doing what you love. Here’s one affirmation that I highly recommend for this purpose: When I do the work I love the world is enriched and so am I, as large sums of money flow to me quickly, easily and abundantly.

The best way to use affirmations is through writing, and the best way to do that is to include the response that comes up from the Unconscious. Take a blank sheet of paper and divide the page in three--at the left margin, write the affirmation, and in the middle of the page write the negative response that arises in your mind. Suppose it’s "If I do what I love nobody will care," simply write the response, without any judgment. This technique isn’t about suppressing your negative thoughts or doubts; it’s about allowing them to be pulled out from your Unconscious through the magnetic power of the affirmation. By writing these negative thoughts in a systematic manner, you gradually release them from your being. Then in the right column create a new affirmation that specifically treats the negative response that emerged. A good one to deal with the above resistance is "God supports me when I do the work I love."

I recommend writing this affirmation 10 times a day for at least a week, and then speaking it 10 times a day, with feeling and energy, until its truth has become manifest in your daily life.

When the affirmation--When I do what I love the world is enriched and so am I, as large sums of money flow to me quickly, easily and abundantly.—has been planted deeply enough and becomes fixed in your Unconscious, you’ll become a testament to the truth that when you do what you love the money does follow. You will also be a very happy and prosperous person doing the work you were born to do.
