Column: “Breath & Prosperity”
Healing negative patterns with money is like healing negative patterns with relationships: It’s important to do two things to transform your money life: 1) gain intellectual awareness of the pattern; and 2) emotionally heal the pattern.
One technique I find incredibly effective for enhancing prosperity is Prana-sperity: The Breath of Abundance, an energetic, consciously-connected breathing process. The first half of the word, Prana, is the Sanskrit equivalent to the Chinese word chi. For those who prefer their definitions in English, think vital life energy. The Hebrew word for breath is ruach; for spirit it’s rach. The Latin word spiritus means breath and spirit, as does the Greek pneuma. Our English word inspiration means both the act of breathing and being receptive to ideas from spirit. In almost any language, there’s a linguistic recognition that the deeper you breathe, the more your spirit awakens. In my own practice as a coach, I often find that shallow breathers who take in small amounts of oxygen, are also under-earners who take in small amounts of money.
I developed the Prana-sperity breathing technique so that clients could experience a quantum shift in healing. Breath, after all, is powerful; without it, we have no life; with it, we can have life in abundance. Our breath links us to the cosmos. Sensing this connection, William Channing addressed the role of breath on consciousness when he wrote: “Ideas are the mightiest influence on earth. One great thought breathed into a man may regenerate him.” You can breathe in mighty ideas to regenerate your prosperity.
When the breath becomes expansive and fluid, we open to deeper places within ourselves, often to childhood memories about money, and we become ready to receive positive scripting. Lao-Tzu knew that breath returns us to our source, writing in the Tao Te Ching: “When one gives undivided attention to the vital breath and brings it to the utmost degree of pliancy, he can become as a tender babe.”
This, of course, awakens your innocence, which helps undo negative childhood money training. The peace of Prana-sperity also provides a safe backdrop for unresolved issues about lack to surface. It’s one thing to be intellectually aware of your limited money training; another to heal the pain of poverty consciousness at a cellular level. Expanded breathing fuels such healing; like a powerful sports car it drives you to the depth of your being. Once there, you can make necessary repairs on childhood scripting. This replaces negative imprinting at the cellular level with positive imprinting.
By allowing you to breathe in more oxygen than you need, Prana-sperity is a metaphor for your prosperity. It trains you to be comfortable with an abundance of Earth’s omnipresent air. You also demonstrate to your mind’s subconscious area and your body’s cells that abundance is natural. You’ll recognize that our world’s omnipresent possibilities are there to enjoy. Take the time to sell your cells on this reality, and you can create tremendous prosperity.

Referral Fees
When I ran my own marketing/PR firm, I loved thanking anyone who referred a new client to me, by sending a check for 10 percent of the fees generated. I have a similar policy as a life coach, a meditation teacher, and the writer of books for others. If you inspire someone to become a client of mine for coaching or book writing, or a meditation student, you’ll receive 10 percent of the fee that that person begins with me at. That could easily mean a check for you of $140 or $85 for coaching, and for $50 for meditation. It’s my way of saying, “thanks.” My thought is simple–who couldn’t use a piece of unexpected income?
